Sociedade Algodoeira do Niassa – João Ferreira dos Santos (SAN-JFS) is once again recognized for its commitment to sustainable development and the improvement of rural livelihoods in Mozambique. Its work is highlighted on page 34 of the 2024 Annual Report of the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF), the organization behind the Cotton made in Africa (CmiA) initiative.

The report acknowledges SAN-JFS as a key local partner in the implementation of sustainable cotton initiatives, showcasing innovative practices in farmer training, community empowerment, and climate resilience. One of the highlights is SAN-JFS’s contribution to the CAR-iSMa (Climate Adaptation and Resilience Initiative for Sustainable Cotton in Sub-Saharan Africa) project, which aims to strengthen the resilience of smallholder cotton farmers to climate change.

By promoting practices such as improved soil management, use of biofertilizers, continuous training, and the dissemination of solar-powered technologies tailored to local needs, SAN-JFS demonstrates how productivity, inclusion, and environmental regeneration can go hand in hand. This integrated approach is already benefiting thousands of smallholder farmers in northern Mozambique, promoting not only increased income, but also access to energy, education, and gender equity.

SAN-JFS’s inclusion in this international report reinforces its strategic role as a driver of socio-economic transformation in the cotton sector, serving as a model for other companies and organizations seeking to create positive impact on the ground.

“We believe the future of African cotton lies in local solutions with global impact. SAN-JFS embodies this vision: commitment, innovation, and sustainability,” — highlights the Aid by Trade Foundation report.

With this recognition, SAN-JFS strengthens its position as a key partner in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Mozambique, particularly SDGs 1 (No Poverty), 5 (Gender Equality), 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and 13 (Climate Action).
