The Regenagri Standard Criteria v3.3 and the Regenagri Theory of Change present a comprehensive strategy for transforming global agriculture through regenerative practices that prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and climate resilience. Regenagri’s framework applies to individual farms, cooperatives, and agribusinesses, ensuring that sustainable principles are integrated across the supply chain. By promoting regenerative soil practices, responsible labor policies, and transparent supply chain management, the initiative drives systemic improvements in agriculture, creating a fair and sustainable farming ecosystem.
Key Findings
The updated certification standards emphasize regenerative crop production by encouraging cover cropping, conservation tillage, and crop rotation to improve soil fertility and carbon sequestration. Farms are required to adopt natural fertilization strategies while reducing the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, ensuring a lower environmental footprint and increased productivity. Additionally, for livestock farming, rotational grazing systems and soil management plans are mandated to minimize land degradation and enhance biodiversity. The certification follows a context-based approach, considering climate, soil type, and farming systems to tailor effective regenerative solutions.
Beyond farming techniques, social and labor conditions are a core focus of the certification. Regenagri enforces strict policies against child labor, promotes fair wages, and ensures safe working conditions and collective bargaining rights. Certified farms must actively engage with local communities and contribute to socially responsible agricultural development. Supply chain transparency is also reinforced through transaction certificates, ensuring that regenerative products maintain credibility from farm to final product. To enhance environmental conservation, the certification requires biodiversity protection, afforestation efforts, and responsible water management, while also addressing plastic waste reduction, greenhouse gas monitoring, and renewable energy adoption.
Regenagri’s ambitious goals for 2025 include certifying 2 million hectares of farmland and 200,000 farms while achieving a 50% reduction in the carbon footprint of certified farming activities. Operating in 30 growing countries, Regenagri is scaling up its efforts to demonstrate the viability of carbon sequestration, soil regeneration, and climate-smart farming. These initiatives are continuously reviewed and adapted, leveraging technology, data analytics, and knowledge-sharing networks to ensure measurable and lasting agricultural improvements. By investing in education, infrastructure, and cross-sector partnerships, Regenagri aims to revolutionize farming practices and accelerate the transition to sustainable agriculture.
The Regenagri framework provides a clear and scalable roadmap for regenerative agriculture, offering practical solutions to improve soil health, biodiversity, and climate resilience. By integrating responsible farming practices, ethical labor standards, and transparent supply chain management, Regenagri is creating a global movement towards environmentally responsible farming. However, to ensure long-term success, continued investment, policy support, and collaboration among stakeholders are essential for widespread adoption and impactful change in the agricultural sector.
